Unite for Education, a political action committee, has announced its endorsement of three candidates for the Gilbert School Board.

The three candidates are current GPS Governing Board President Lily Tram, former GPS principal Sheila Rogers and parent and financial executive Reed Carr.

The three were selected after an extensive review process by a diverse group of community members.  The process included a public forum, questionnaire and interview. The candidates will run for the three open seats in the upcoming November race.  Candidates were rated in the following areas:

Knowledge of board procedures and practices

Awareness of current school issues

Knowledge of state funding and local budget models

Community and school leadership positions

Unite for Education (ufeaz.com) was formed more than two years ago. An independent organization, the group is comprised of individuals with diverse political, religious and professional backgrounds, who have united to advocate for children in Gilbert and East Mesa by supporting strong public education.

“Strong schools and a supportive community is critical for the town of Gilbert.  We are committed to supporting our schools, including our teachers, staff and administrators,” said Unite co-chair Paula Dubas.

The group was heavily involved in the last school board race and the most recent override election, organizing volunteers to canvas neighborhoods, rally public support and fundraise to support candidates and the override.  The group raised more than $80,000 to support the 2015 GPS override and both of the Unite-endorsed candidates were seated on the GPS governing board in the 2014 election.
